What is an IXP?

An Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is a physical infrastructure through which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) exchange Internet traffic between their networks. The primary purpose is to allow networks to interconnect directly instead of through third-party networks. The advantages of direct interconnection are numerous, but the primary advantages are greater security, increased speed, reduced latency, and reduced cost.
